{"id":3697,"date":"2026-06-19T08:22:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T08:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scripture.amos.ip-ddns.com\/?p=3697"},"modified":"2026-06-19T08:22:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T08:22:16","slug":"genesis1713-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scripture.amos.ip-ddns.com\/?p=3697","title":{"rendered":"Genesis17:13-14"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Genesis 17:13-14<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What God Elohim promised Abraham was not only a physical mark but also spiritual meanings. In these verses, the circumcised body was the mark of the everlasting covenant. However, human beings cannot wash away their own sin. If human beings could do that, it would not have been necessary for God to plan salvation for all humanity. Because of the result of sin, everyone has only one path\u2014death. Therefore, God Elohim had to make a plan to redeem all sinners through a special line in humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, what God required of the chosen people was simple and easy. They only needed to circumcise those who were born in Abraham\u2019s house or bought with money. At that time, God Elohim did not require them to do anything beyond their ability. They were commanded only to obey this simple requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they refused circumcision, they would be cut off from their people. If someone claims to believe in God but cannot obey this simple covenant, how can he dare to claim that he belongs to God\u2014especially as a sinful and fallen human being?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although we often view circumcision merely as a religious mark, its spiritual meaning still applies to God\u2019s people today. Circumcision represents the removal of the natural, sinful ability of human beings. Since humanity became united with sin, people became fleshly and relied on the source represented by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Indeed, we must circumcise our old self and turn to the new life-source, Jesus Christ.
