Genesis1_2

When reading Genesis 1:2, there is a hidden mystery. The verse says:

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

This suggests that there was a long period of time between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:3. Judging from the condition of the earth—formless and void—it seems that a terrible destruction occurred after God created the heavens and the earth. From other verses in the Bible, we know that great disobedience can lead to God’s judgment. This may indicate that different kinds of creatures lived on the earth before Genesis 1:3. In addition, we can be sure that the earth is far older than we usually imagine.

Therefore, some archaeological discoveries may belong to the first creation described in Genesis 1:1. That first world might have been miraculous and marvelous, filled with events similar to those described in the myths of our present world—the second creation. Since the first world was not the main focus of God’s plan, it is recorded in only one verse.

This verse describes the condition of the earth, not the heavens. Therefore, some living beings may have perished. Although we cannot obtain more information about them, they must have been intelligent, considering God’s creative power. As we know, fallen angels possess great intelligence, and the beings from the first world may have been similarly advanced. The Bible is wonderful: if you read it carefully, you will find that it corresponds to the real world in which we live today.
