Genesis 5:6-21

And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:

And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:

And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:

And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:

And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:

And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:

And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.

And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:

And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.

And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:

And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.

And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:

It simply recorded how many years they lived and how many descendants they begat. There was also one notable thing: they all died, except that only Enoch escaped death. This line of Seth’s offspring did not mention what they did or their occupations; it only focused on the spreading of life. There was another feature worth noting: all of them had remarkably long lifespans. Their lifetimes were accounted for in the eyes of God, so the numbers of their years were precise.

Compared with the line of Cain’s offspring, these ancestors had no specific recorded work or future plans mentioned. They held a unique place on the earth. In fact, society had developed to a high level by that time. They had long lives and accumulated considerable knowledge and technology, so they may have reached a level of civilization even surpassing modern society in certain ways. That Noah could build a massive and extraordinary ark testifies to this in some way. The fact that fallen angels married the daughters of humanity also demonstrates that humanity had achieved a high level of cultural and technological development. Perhaps they already had a well-developed social division of labor.

However, there was a line of humanity that walked a different path, following Abel’s way to seek God Elohim. According to the meanings of their names, it is indicated that they were on the path of seeking God and waiting for the salvation He had promised. They spent more than a thousand years preserving the gospel that came from God. It was difficult for those men, especially living in that era, because there was no certain record of their specific work or occupations. That is why Noah’s father Lamech felt so weary and burdened throughout his life.
