Genesis 6:18-22
But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
God’s covenant with Noah indicated that God gave a pledge to His people and used His faithfulness to commit Himself. Through God’s word, Noah had the courage and faith to face the immense disaster on the earth. All human beings and other living creatures were removed from the earth, which would have caused enormous psychological trauma to anyone who experienced it. Meanwhile, God ordered Noah to take his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives with him. Since the wicked people refused the salvation of God, no one joined Noah in the ark, even though Noah invited them. Only the family of Noah obeyed the will of God. The family was the basic unit of salvation. Parents play an important and crucial role in leading and educating their children to fear and love God.
God told Noah to carefully take different living creatures according to their own kind. The one true God cared for all of creation in love. God also ordered Noah to take enough food for him, his family, and the other creatures to eat. Based on these detailed arrangements, God was thorough and gentle toward His people. He cared about every aspect of their lives, even the smallest details.
Therefore, when God intends to do something, He prepares for it carefully. In addition, He waits patiently for a long time for the wicked to repent. Meanwhile, He calls out and declares to all people again and again. Only when necessary does God act in judgment. Thus, the coming destruction will be like the first, yet the period of patient waiting will be even longer.
