Genesis 9:12-14

And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

God Elohim not only established a covenant with Noah and all living creatures, but also set a token of that covenant. This meant that God is faithful. Whatever God promises or speaks to anyone, He will fulfill it and keep His word. Meanwhile, God also appointed the time of this token for perpetual generations. This indicated that human beings no longer needed to worry about being destroyed by some unknown natural disaster, because God set this covenant for a long duration. Unless no human beings remained on the earth—which cannot happen because of God’s covenant—destruction of that kind would not occur.

Therefore, God set His bow in the cloud as a sign of the covenant between God and the earth. According to this verse, we see that God governs the operations of nature. Indeed, God brings clouds over the earth and manages the rain. Before the floodwaters, there is no clear evidence mentioned about clouds and rain. Perhaps clouds and rain appeared after Adam and Eve fell. The weather changed, and there was a cold wind before God called Adam in Eden.

It was meaningful for human beings that the bow was seen in the cloud. In other words, God limited the activity of the clouds and, at the same time, the waters. Perhaps the bow appeared for the first time after God adjusted the clouds. But for us today, it is a natural phenomenon. At that time, it might have been newly made by God Elohim.

Praise God Elohim, for He is faithful and has set a token of the covenant!
