Genesis 9:25
And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
Why was Canaan cursed? Although Ham revealed the nakedness of his father, he might have been deeply connected with Canaan. Perhaps many of the ideas originated from Canaan. Since Ham, the father of Canaan, lifted himself up and desired a higher position, he intended to use the event to create conflict and gain something for himself. In fact, a family is similar to a country—there are always people who want a higher rank and position. Such people often have great ambition to control others. Therefore, what Ham did was different from what his brothers did.
If a person fears God, he will treat the representative of God with respect and cover whatever mistakes or wrongdoings that representative may have committed. What King David did toward King Saul is a good example of this principle. David did not break the basic principle of the administration of God Elohim.
Moreover, how did Noah know what Ham had done? According to Ham’s actions toward his brothers, it was probably because Ham spread the matter around and wanted to draw attention to himself. Ham, the father of Canaan, thought they would gain something by exposing his father, the highest leader on the earth at that time. However, they failed.
After Noah awoke from his wine, he pronounced judgment on them. Canaan would become a servant of servants to his brothers. This was similar to how God treated Lucifer, who wanted to take the highest position on God’s mountain; nevertheless, God cast him into a deep place and made him lower than every creature.
To be humble is wisdom for everyone.
