Genesis 10:1-32

Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

This chapter is interesting because it is composed almost entirely of names. In other words, it forms the basic prototype of humanity’s genealogy. It first describes Noah’s youngest son, Japheth, then Ham, and lastly Noah’s eldest son, Shem.

From this chapter, we can form a foundational concept of humanity: the peoples of different regions originate from these three ancestors—the sons of Noah. Apart from them, no other human beings survived, because every other human living creature was destroyed by the floodwaters. All people living today are descendants of Noah.
