Genesis 11:7-8
“Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.”
This passage relates to the Trinity God. Therefore, God Elohim said, “Let us go down.” It is not easy to explain the Holy Trinity clearly, for it is one of the essential attributes of God Elohim. Simply put, the decision to confound the language of humanity was not made by one divine person alone but by the Triune God.
Human beings have also studied this “triune” pattern and, in some cases, developed tripartite political systems, which helped certain nations remain strong for long periods.
We do not know how God confounded their language, yet they suddenly could not understand one another’s speech. Perhaps their vocal cords were changed physiologically, and their ears could no longer recognize different phonetic elements such as vowels or consonants. From that time, human beings formed distinct languages in different regions.
Meanwhile, God scattered them over the face of all the earth. Some may think God should not interfere with human plans. However, if God had not confused their language and scattered them, those people might have built a long‑lasting kingdom that enslaved all other humans through the power of the city and the tower.
Thus, God protected the weak and poor after they stopped building the city. Throughout human history, magnificent structures—such as the Great Wall and the Pyramids—were often built at the cost of the poor and powerless. By scattering humanity, God allowed others to fulfill His will and commandments rather than be dominated by a single oppressive power.
