Genesis 11:10-32

These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

These verses record the genealogy of the people called by Jehovah, tracing the line from Shem to Abram. This fulfills what Noah prophesied about the tent of the God of Shem. Throughout human history, there has always been a hidden line of people belonging to God.

As humanity developed, human lifespans became shorter and shorter. They gradually settled around one hundred and twenty years, the limit God Jehovah pronounced on fallen humanity before the flood.

Although Satan secretly brought evil into human life, there still remained a line of people protected by God. With Abram, God began His new work among humanity.

These verses record the lifespans and generations of Abram’s ancestors. In a sense, the ability of ordinary people to live, bear children, and continue the human line is itself wonderful and meaningful in the eyes of God. Since the history of the called people ultimately leads to the special One—Jesus Christ—we should live our lives with hope. Adam, Noah, Abraham, and many others waited for Him for a long time.

According to these verses, we should hold firmly to our faith. At the same time, they make the true outline of human history clear to us. Do not be deceived by evolutionism. God has given us the Bible to reveal the timeline of genealogy and historical events.

The time of His second coming is drawing near. We are simply waiting for Him.
