Genesis 12:11-13

And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou  art a fair woman to look upon:

Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.

Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

Abram was a wise man who understood human nature deeply. At that time, there were no laws to restrain people’s actions. They followed the law of the jungle and seized whatever they desired by force. It seems to be an unchanging principle that men are attracted to beautiful women. Since Sarai was very beautiful, Abram feared for his life because of his relationship with her.

Perhaps many people in that era lost their lives because of their beautiful wives. Powerful and violent men controlled more resources for survival, including wealth, sexual access, and women. This reflects the essence of a world governed by Satan.

This situation was a difficult test for Abram. If he did not go to Egypt, the famine would have starved him and his people. If he went to Egypt, he would have to lie and disguise himself, even risking the loss of his wife. From a human perspective, Abram chose the best option available and used his intelligence to face the future. For an ordinary man, survival is the first and most basic rule of life.

From Abram’s experience, we see that he shared the same human nature as we do. However, as a man called by God, his actions did not honor God. Abram forgot that his true source of provision was God Elohim. He relied on his own strength to face the famine instead of asking God for help or seeking God’s guidance.

Although Abram prepared thoroughly for his journey, he forgot that God was secretly protecting him. Indeed, in a world under Satan’s influence, it is difficult for a righteous person to live or seek God. Without God’s protection, violent and evil people would destroy them in many ways.

Therefore, we must keep our faith in God and practice righteousness, because God protects His people in ways unseen.
