Genesis 13:14-17

And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

After Lot separated from Abram, he also lost the blessing and promise of God Elohim. Hence, God said to Abram that the place he looked from, in all four directions, belonged to him and his seed forever. It was a promise from God Elohim, so that even after the people of Israel lost their country for two thousand years, they recovered their nation again. If Lot had not left his uncle, he probably would have received other promises from God because of Abram.

Although Lot made his choice of land, it was not determined by human will but by God’s. Abram did not strive for himself, yet God gave him what he neither requested nor demanded. Indeed, God knows what people truly need. Since most people are enslaved by their unlimited desires, they waste their entire lifetime. In fact, they do not know what they really want. Meanwhile, they serve their lusts and many needs that are ultimately useless to them. What Abram did is an example of learning not to choose according to our fallen nature, but only by following God.

God not only promised the land to Abram, but also his seed, as numerous as the dust of the earth. Therefore, all humanity is saved and blessed through this word of God. In some sense, all who believe in God and Jesus Christ are the seed of Abram.

Later, God commanded Abram to arise and walk through the land in its length and breadth. This declared to the whole universe that the land belonged to Abram and his seed forever. Every country does not appear suddenly; it is established at a certain time with its boundaries set long ago by God. God governs everything, even what seems hidden.
