Genesis 15:11–16

And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

The fowls represent the devil and its envoys in the Bible, where Jesus explains the metaphor of sowing seeds in the gospel books. Since Abram drove away those fowls from the sacrifices, it illustrated that he was guarding them and protecting them from being destroyed or interfered with. Furthermore, it also illustrated that believers would be protected in their church life, because those sacrifices are the foreshadow of Jesus Christ. Every believer is united with Him so that they can be covered by Jesus Christ for their sins.

God dwells in unapproachable light, and man cannot see Him; darkness was under His feet. When He came down, a horror of great darkness fell upon Abram, who had fallen into a deep sleep at sunset. If He came down directly, the light would kill sinful people, even Abram.

Later, God spoke to Abram and gave him the process details of his descendants in the future. From a human perspective, the process resembled a prophecy, but to God, it was His plan for the fate of Abram’s offspring. It was a strong and confirmed promise to Abram. What the people of Israel would experience and live through was scheduled by God Elohim. Indeed, most people have a fate that is predetermined by the Most High God.

Meanwhile, God told Abram he would be buried in a good old age. What God said to Abram touches a focal point that everyone cares about: his own fate and that of his descendants. Then God told Abram that in the fourth generation they shall come here again. The reason was that the iniquity of the Amorites was not yet full. Therefore, do not worry about the evil people around you, for their iniquity is not yet full. When the time comes, they will be destroyed by justice.

The fate and life of believers are in the hands of God Elohim, who has arranged our schedules and plans.
