Genesis 2:19–20

And out of the ground Jehovah Elohim had formed every animal of the field and every fowl of the heavens, and He brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called each living soul, that was its name.

And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helpmate comparable to him.

These two verses reveal that Adam performed his task wonderfully, because he was able to give names to all living creatures. On the one hand, this shows that Adam managed every living creature carefully and understood them deeply. Giving something a name is not easy, because one must understand its attributes, features, living environment, and the kind to which it is related before assigning a name. A name always represents what a thing is.

On the other hand, the act of naming reveals that Adam possessed extraordinary intelligence. Otherwise, no one could handle all living creatures on the earth. Even today, when we look at the living creatures around us, we cannot name them all.

According to the four rivers, we know that the Garden of Eden was very large. Adam managed everything on the earth and guarded it. It is therefore obvious that Adam had great power beyond our imagination—like Superman in the movies, and even greater. Adam was made in the image of God; therefore, before the fall, Adam possessed certain abilities that reflected God’s power. When reading the Gospels, we see that the Son of God performed many miracles by revealing only a small portion of His power. Being made in the image of God explains why humanity has potential beyond what modern science can fully explain.

After the fall, however, human abilities were greatly limited within the soul. Throughout history, some people discovered methods to activate these hidden potentials, and they were called gods, celestial beings, or sages. Yet in essence, they were still human. Perhaps these methods were provided by Lucifer (Satan), because the human soul contains such powerful potential that Satan desires to enslave humanity and use their abilities indirectly to accomplish his schemes.

Therefore, do not pursue these abilities. It is not good for those who practice them. When such a gate is opened, a dark kingdom waits to devour people (1 Peter 5:8). These latent abilities were polluted after the fall, and limiting them is beneficial for human life.

Adam could not find his helpmate among the living creatures. From this, we also see that Adam was wise, reflecting God’s wisdom. Jehovah God knew that none of the creatures were suitable for Adam, yet He still allowed Adam to make his own judgment. Adam himself also realized that there was no one comparable to him. Even today, many people spend almost their entire lives without finding their helpmate.

Although God is the Creator and knows everything, He did not force Adam to accept what He already knew was necessary. Instead, He respected human freedom and allowed choice without coercion or deception. Praise Jehovah God!
