Genesis 4:13-15
And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
After receiving judgment, Cain did not feel regret for what he had done, nor did he kneel before God Elohim. Instead, he complained that his punishment was too great for him to bear. This showed that he still did not think what he had done was wrong. A sinner is stubborn and always insists that he is right. Cain then explained that he had to leave the ground and could no longer meet God Elohim, and that others might kill him because he would be a fugitive and a wanderer.
From his explanation, it is clear that he placed himself at the center of every problem. He cared only about his living place, his honor, and his life. He did not acknowledge his crime or repent of the murder he had committed. He only cared about what he would face and suffer. If someone has a conscience, he will repent and accept the consequences of his wrongdoing. But Cain was the opposite, concerned only with his own benefit.
On the other hand, God Elohim showed His mercy to Cain. He gave Cain a promise that anyone who killed him would receive sevenfold vengeance. God Elohim also set a mark on Cain so that anyone who found him would not kill him.
This was a clear contrast between Cain and God Elohim. Although a man sins, God still keeps His mercy and forgiveness toward him. Therefore, when we sin, we should confess it immediately and turn to God, because God is love and kindness and always leads us in the right way.
