Genesis 5:1-5
This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
These records from Adam to Noah contain ten generations. God created humanity and made mankind in His own likeness. This means that this line of generations came from God, and human beings were of the kind of God. In the eyes of God, humanity was united as one, from the ancestors to the descendants. Therefore, God Elohim told Moses that He created them male and female and called their name Adam. This does not mean that God Elohim created more than one Adam and Eve at that time.
The phrase “in the day” corresponds to the statement, “in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:17). Since one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day (2 Peter 3:8), Adam lived only nine hundred and thirty years—less than a thousand years.
God Elohim took care of all His chosen people, and everything about them was measured by God, including their lifespan.
After Adam begot a son in his own likeness, there was a way for God to continue His plan for humanity. Therefore, God arranged for His people to do one thing: to live and to beget. They lived and bore the next generations, which was what God Elohim intended. When Adam died, the word God had spoken to them became reality. Death destroyed the human body and hardened the human heart against God. Meanwhile, the spirit of humanity became separated from God. Praise God, there was still a way for the salvation of all mankind.
