Genesis 8:6–7
And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
Forty days is a mark of suffering and signifies that a man experiences testing at some period in his life. For example, Jesus was tested in the wilderness for forty days. Therefore, no matter how difficult a man’s suffering is, it will come to an end. Forty days represents the truth that whatever the suffering is, it will end at the appointed time. When the end of forty days had passed, Noah opened the window of the ark to check on the floodwaters. This tells us that we may discern the end of our sufferings during a period of time.
How does one check the situation? Noah sent forth a raven, which feeds on rotten food. Obviously, if the waters had dried up, there must have been many bodies of different kinds of creatures. Therefore, the raven went forth to and fro until the waters were dried up from off the earth, because there was enough food for it to eat and it could survive in that situation. The raven represents unclean things and our flesh’s inclination toward sin.
The sign of the ending of suffering is that one of your sinful tendencies departs from your fallen flesh and never returns to you. The people who belong to God Elohim suffer for a certain time and expel one of their sinful tendencies as a sign of the ending of that testing.
